While most reviews are glowing, some guests mention that popular days can lead to slightly longer wait times during peak hours, particularly on weekends when the garden attracts many visitors. A handful of diners have noted that the menu, despite its appealing variety, could benefit from more vegetarian and vegan options to cater to diverse dietary needs. Additionally, a few patrons found the seating arrangements, though cozy, to be slightly tight during busy times. Despite a few comments regarding lack of space, the overall atmosphere remains a highlight for many, balancing charm with community spirit.
A lovely find, not noisy, good atmosphere, great roastie, quieter than most. Really enjoyed our time here. Nicely presented food, good quality and value. Definitely visit again.
A lovely little pub with conservatory and well kept grassy garden with seating in shade as well as in sun. Very secluded and wouldn't know your near the road. Visited with friends for lunch. Was nice to see pub had other customers and had offers on for Wonky Wednesday. Friendly welcoming staff. Had a bite of lunch. Had fish finger baguette ( which was huge portion and very filling), lasagna and salad, and Mousakka. All food was freshly made, piping hot (not the salad), and delicious. Staff regularly checked all was OK. We also had pudding. Apple pie with choice of custard, cream or ice cream and lemon and ginger cheesecake. All plates were emptied quickly as it all tasted delicious. Already booked to return and sample Sunday roast. Can't wait. 😀 Thank you for a lovely visit & a fabulous lunch.
Visited for the first time today and will be back. Beautiful pub garden with sheltered areas out of the sun. Lovely flowers and well kept. Inside is very clean with nice crisp decor. The toilets are also clean which is a bonus. Loved the picture of the hunk on the wall. Husband disappointed that the men’s didn’t have a female equivalent lol. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and efficient. We both had ploughman’s lunch which was a great price and was very fresh and filling. We both remarked that the menu was well priced. This place is a little gem. Many thanks ☺️
A decent pub with good, standard pub grub. The beer works too. The Castle is on the Lower Road, not far from Bysing Woods and the Gunpowder Mills (also a short stroll to the water). The garden seems to have been redone well. Decor is part pub, part cafe.
Lovely Pub. Accommodating for a large walking group. Great meals and service. Have visited several times this year and always excellent,
Really nice place. Couldn't fault it. The food was cooked really well and felt very homely. Good value for money and will return at some point.
Such great value, friendly atmosphere and staff. Really lovely with my toddler. Hard to find a pub like this anymore!
